Race Summary:
In the final race before the Chase for the Nextel Cup, two separate sets of racers came into Richmond were looking to accomplish two totally separate goals. For the drivers already locked into NASCAR’s version of the playoffs, a win would mean ten extra bonus points and a boost toward the Cup. For Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, and Dale Earnhardt Junior, the race was still to get into The Chase. After 400 laps of amazing side-by-side racing, Jimmie Johnson accomplished goal #1, dominating his way to the win, ten bonus points, and seizing the top spot in points. Meanwhile, Earnhardt failed to reach goal #2, despite a heroic effort that brought Red Nation to its feet nearly all the way to the checkered flag.
