2007 Dodge Avenger 500
05.12.2007
Darlington Speedway
Race Summary:
When Jeff Gordon was piling up championships in the 1990's, he was also piling up victories on NASCAR's oldest speedway, the Darlington Raceway. When the Dodge Avenger 500 rolled off one day late due to rain, the 500-mile marathon looked as though it would be a three car race between Denny Hamlin, Ryan Newman, and Jimmie Johnson. But as sun threatened to go down on South Carolina, a new threat emerged. It was Gordon, barely hanging onto the engine in his Chevy. With steam spewing from the hood and Hamlin bearing down, Gordon took the win, his third, Hendrick Motorsports' 8th and Chevy's 11th on the year.
Drivers:
Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jamie McMurray, Jeff Burton, Johnny Sauter, Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart
