2007 Goody's Cool Orange 500
04.01.2007
Martinsville Speedway
Race Summary:
On paper, it looks like just another win for the hottest team - Hendrick Motorsports - and the hottest driver - Jimmie Johnson - of 2007. In reality, it was a 500-lap nail-biter from start ton finish. Denny Hamlin started on the pole and the Virginia native cruised early on his home state Speedway. Along the way, his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Tony Stewart took a turn up front, joined by Dale Earnhardt Jr. who led the most laps of any driver. But as the checkered flag loomed, it was Johnson who was once again in the lead. The closing lap featured the second shootout of the season between Johnson and his mentor, Jeff Gordon. In the end Johnson took the win. Should Jeff Gordon have spun his protégé to take the win? You be the judge.
