2007 Subway 500

10.21.2007
Martinsville Speedway

Winner:

Jimmie Johnson

Pole:

Jeff Gordon

Race Summary:

For six decades, the Martinsville Speedway has been the home of everything we love about NASCAR - tight racing, crushed sheet metal, and fantastic finishes. The 118th Cup race run on the half-mile oval stayed true to form, with wrecks, duels, and a last lap finish that extended the event into the Martinsville 506. Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Burton, and Juan Pablo Montoya all spent time at the front. Series point leader Jeff Gordon looked as though he would extend his winning streak to three in a row, but was suddenly challenged by teammate Jeff Gordon and Chase party crasher Ryan Newman. A late caution, the race’s 21st, set up a last lap dash to the checkers, with Johnson earning his 3rd consecutive Martinsville win and keeping pace with Gordon with only four races remaining in the ’07 season.
