Even since Juan Pablo Montoya had announced his intention to make an unprecedented move from Formula One to NASCAR, fans from South America to the South of France hung on his every move, waiting to see when (or if) he would ever win in Nextel Cup. In the early going, it appeared the 2000 Indy 500 winner would have to play second fiddle to Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, and surprise pole winner Jamie McMurray. But some amazing maneuvers and unprecedented fuel efficiency helped the Colombian star outlast Kevin Harvick for the victory.
